They say that a picture is worth a thousand words. While The exact word to picture ratio can possibly be disputed, there can be little doubt that pictures matter.
Perhaps particularly on blog posts. People may come to see what you have written, but having a few pictures and understanding a few simple graphics "tricks" can greatly enhance the user experience.
